Anybody Do Saddle Repair?

October 7th, 2008 by Bill | Filed under Resources, shop.

We get the occasional mail or call from someone who wants to get their saddle repaired. We sell replacement parts for Brooks saddles but we don’t work on them. The only reference I have is Tony Colegrave, in England. It would be nice to have a resource in America.

Does anyone in the US do this kind of work? Would any of you like to do this type of work. You could perform a service to the Brooks community and make a little money.

Hey, I need to put a new frame and rivets on one of mine. Anyone out there who can help? I don't have access to a vise!

I think CycleArt repairs leather saddles.

    This from the CyclArt website:

Monte, our leathersmith has retired so we’re not currently accepting saddle work. We are seeking talanted leather smiths who might learn this specialty or someone intetested in buying our leather working equipment…

My father has successfully repaired multiple saddles for me. I picked up many saddles in the netherlands, all of various unrideable conditions, and they are all being used now. He repaired a b72, a few b66s's, a b73, and a b15, and even a full suspension brooks in the high 100 models. All were missing rivets, had broken springs, cracked rails. If you need help restoring your saddle, he will be able to help you for a very fair price. Email: Mikaspyder@gmail.com

Hi Bill-How'd you make out with this? Were you able to get anyone or did you let the equipment go? Ken

    Hi Eddie

Thanks for responding on my blog post.

It sounds like your experience is with horse gear. I just want to make sure you understand what we are talking about here. These are bicycle saddles that consist of a leather cover riveted to a metal frame. Most of the time repairs consist of replacing frames and frame parts. Riveting is the main skill needed.
If that is what you are interested in doing let me know.

    Regards

    Eddie,

I have a Brooks flyer bike saddle I butchered trying to cut a perineal channel. The metal bits (frame, tensioner, etc.) are in perfect shape. If you'd like to have it for no charge, to try your hand at Brooks bike saddle repair, please reply to this message and I'll call to get your mailing address.

    HStewart,

I'm starting up a shop, working on refurbishing bicycle saddles, including Brooks. Any and all saddles to work on are a welcome thing. If you're still open to having someone work on the saddle you have, I'm happy to pay shipping to get it to me. Feel free to email me if you're interested….or anyone else out there in a similar situation….walker_vw@hotmail.com

http://www.recoveredsaddle.com is what you want. Brooks repairs are off the table for now. I am currently working on a source for Regal rivets. I can pretty much handle anything else.
